that shut down several lanes of highway 280 in san jose this morning. other drivers found the victim's body in the middle of the freeway around 3:15 this morning and called 911. the victim is identified as 39-year-old amanda vente of san jose. officers don't know why she was walking on the freeway and said all she had on her was a set of keys. the chp is asking for the help of anyone who might have witnessed this hit and run. >>> south bay residents have another chance to turn in guns for cash this weekend. santa clara county is hosting its second gun buy-back event tomorrow morning in east san jose. the first one was held earlier this month and paid out over $100,000 to residents bringing in handguns, rifles and assault weapons. tomorrow's event will run from 8:00 a.m. to noon at reid-hillview airport in east san jose. guns should be brought unloaded in the trunk of a car or bed of a truck. event organizers are also inviting gang members to come down and turn in their gang colors. >>> livermore wine makers are celebrating the start of spring but also keeping a close watch on the weather. l

in san jose where police are on the scene of a fatal shooting involving a man in a stolen car. police say the man sped away from officers in unmarked police cars and the chase ended in unincorporated east san jose when the man put the car in reverse and sped toward an officer standing outside his car. they say the officer fired a slot and hit the suspect in the head. abc7 news reporter has an update in 30 minutes. >> we are learning new details of a child care center that was suddenly shut down by state regulators last friday. it involved the universal preschool formally known as the sunny side infant and preschool. state regulators found a number of violations including an infant sleeping in a high chair, a worker without a proper background check, more children than the school is licensed to care for and the improper restraining of children. photos were shown of the babies swaddled with a blanket tied around the body and another around their ankles. >> always been very nice until this happened and then it has been lie after lie when you try to get a refund and suddenly they say they onl

are investigating san jose's third police shooting of this month. an officer fired on a suspect yesterday afternoon after police say a woman in a stolen car tried to run an officer down. they say the woman reversed the car and hit the officer as he approached the vehicle. the officer then shot her at least once. a man sitting in the passenger seat was injured but it is not clear if he was shot. both went to the hospital but police say they will recover. the for was not seriously injured. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo will have the latest in the next half hour. >> four children, one only 13, led police on a chase down highway 101 yesterday. the three teenage boys and a girl all from san jose are now accused stealing a car and running from police. sky 7 was over seen just as the chase ended in redwood city, the 14-year-old boy behind the wheel started running from police by foster city after they spotted the stolen car. >> people hoping to reduce gun violence are planning ever developments across the country today. today is the national day to demand action, a bay area group is planning to rally

, the lady who lives on southbrook drive in south san jose tells me she awoke to find him standing over her in bed. she chased him out of the house, told him to keep running because she was calling the police. i said, wow, that's pretty gutsy. she tells me she always had that instinct in her. officers were able to set up a perimeter within 90 seconds since coincidentally they were already patrolling the area for other quality of life crimes in that neighborhood. she was able to give them a very good description. she did fall asleep with the tv on. campo was found within minutes. >> the fact that they were able to respond in less than two minutes, lock the area down, he probably came out and tried to pretend that he was just a nearby resident because he figured there was so many officers in the area that he wasn't going to be able to avoid detection very long. so he probably rolled the dice and tried to trick us into thinking he was somebody who lived in the area. >> reporter: campo was arrested, as i mentioned. he was wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet as required by law. he also tried to
